Hi, the links make clear the usage of trigger and permanent, however, the functionality of the overwrite flag remains a mystery to me. Any further explanation would be appreciated.

Hi Brian,
if true you will overwrite an object with the same id if already existing in another cell. If false (default value) and an object with the same id already exists in another cell, you will get an exception. This is only relevant if you specify the id, otherwise every cell gets its own unique autogenerated id. You can try by creating an object in a1 and another one in a2 with the same id, first with overwrite = false and then with overwrite = true.
