I know it is not what you look for but, have you tried Visual C++ 2005
Express Edition?
It is free and much easy. I have much more difficulties trying to compile
using Linux then windows (probably because some wrong tools I was using).

If you just wan to test your codes and don´t mind the environment, VC 2005
would be easier.
