I found the QuantLib software/group via a search for open source investment planning/evaluation software. I am a PhD candidate in Computational Biology, but am interested in investment/finance (ironically, considering my grad-school assets, or lack thereof...). I was wondering if someone could point me towards something free (or very cheap) that is basically a practical quantitative finance for dummies. Basically, I want to know how to put this software to use personally. I am a programmer, and have a fairly strong stats background, and am not scared by that sort of stuff, but the terminology alone is all quite foreign. I originally was interested in something to help me forecast/plan personal investments. I am aware that this may not be the type of project where I can find such tools, but surely someone can point me in a good direction? Remember, my current money situation is not one that is conducive to paying someone/buying software, unless it is quite cheap! Sorry if this message is out of place here! Thanks in advance, Steve
