compiling QL0.3.9

Dear experts,

just would like to know which version of gcc should I use to compile QL
0.3.9
on Linux 7.2

I used gcc 2.96 and got the error message saying "ostream" not found.

I'm using 3.3 on my box. Version 3.2 and above should work.
