Initial Comment:
Current implementation has a possibility to get to an endless loop if the current approximation reaches a constraint boundary or by erroneous client's settings. The proposed patch fixes this.

Could you please attach the patch as a context diff? (diff -C 3)
The lack of context is making it difficult for my patch program to apply
the final hunk in the correct place.
