There was a CL environment variable you could set to pass options to the
compiler, so that for example
set CL=/DBOOST_HAS_LONG_LONG
would cause the macro to be defined. I don't know if it still works with
VC2008 though.

For what its worth if you set
project->properties->C++->Language->disable language extensions->no
then everything builds fine and all the tests pass.
This works in MSVC9.
